Puppies!! Week 6

I know I'm several days late with my update, but it's been a busy week for our family (both 2 legged and 4 legged). The pups are growing rapidly and getting ready to go to their new homes. That day is coming up faster than I think!

This week, one of the biggest events with the pups was bath day. They weren't too sure about being put in the tub and getting hosed off. They did remarkably well though. A couple of them were a little vocal about it, but none of them panicked. Several were totally stoic through the whole thing and just stood there and endured it.

Even those that objected quickly forgave me once it was over.

Ditto was on hand through out the whole thing, checking on the pups and making sure I was being careful with them.

Bathing pups is a family affair. In addition to me bathing the pups, we need puppy carriers, driers, puppy watchers, someone to clip nails, and of course, a photographer.

Nail clipping was done with very little fussing. This is a pretty laid back bunch, for the most part. Of course they did have 4 legged inspectors on hand to be sure it was done right. (Percy, on the right, isn't even their dad.)

The pups still nurse on Mom once or twice a day, but only for a minute or two. Most of their nutrition comes from puppy food.

The pups still sleep a lot, but a great portion of their time is spent in play, either with each other or with the kids.

The pups love attention, and I need to make sure I add extra time to pen cleaning just to give them some love.

This week, in addition to getting to meet the other dogs in the house, April decided they should meet some of our chickens - in the living room!

The other big event this week is we finally had a warm sunny day and the pups were finally able to go outside! In the beginning, they were terrified to come out the door, even with Mama trying to encourage them. They weren't sure about the feel of grass under their feet or the big open spaces either, but they quickly warmed up to the idea and began playing with the big dogs. Mom (Ditto) was thrilled to be able to play with them outside, and both Molly (my mom's puppy) and Percy (my son's young shepherd) had a ball teaching the pups to run and chase them. Dad (Gryphon) preferred watching them from a distance. (Puppies are unpredictable and scary!) Both dogs and pups slept well that night!

That about covers this busy week. I know a lot of you have seen some of these videos on Facebook. For those of you that haven't, there are even more videos there. You can click at the link at the bottom of the page to get there. It's been a fun/busy week. We will sure miss the pups when they leave for home. They bring a lot of happiness and laughter to our home!
