It's been a busy last couple of weeks with the pups. It's hard to believe they are all gone and it's our last litter. It's much quieter around here (and less smelly), but we sure miss them. After watching each pup be born and spending time every day watching them grow and loving on them, it is pretty lonely around here with them gone. Ditto still misses them and walks around with their toys in her mouth.
During these last two weeks, the pups' personalities really developed. They loved to explore and play.
Ditto loved to play with them and was incredibly gentle with them.
She still wanted to nurse them a couple times a day, though not for very long. I think it was more of a comfort thing for all of them.
It is such a fun stage because everything is new to them. An ice cube kept Green collar (Lucy Lou) amused for a great while.
With all of this growing and playing, like most siblings, there were times when a pup got grumpy or too rough with the others. This necessitated some time in "puppy prison" until they settled down.
The rough play meant several of the collars needed to be replaced.
With all of this playing and growing, the pups grew tired and slept. It didn't matter where they were when they decided they were ready for a nap.
We had baths again, both before going to the vet, and before meeting their new families. (And as always, Ditto was always on hand, cleaning the spots I may have missed.)
The pups love people and were sure to greet us whenever we came near the pen.
They loved snuggling and were a great comfort to anyone who might be a little lonely. They fit on laps now, but they won't stay so small.
Unfortunately, due to bad weather, the pups couldn't get outside much, but on the day before the last two pups left, the weather was beautiful and they got outside again. Yellow collar (Betty), wasn't too sure about going out into that bright sunshine.
Once outside, they had a great time running with the kids and big dogs.
The pups have all gone to their new homes now, and so far, other than some sleepless nights as the pups get used to not sleeping in a pile with their siblings, the reports from their owners seem to be positive. In spite of all the work involved, I will really miss these days. The pups brought a lot of joy and love to our lives. Best wishes to Betty, Lucy Lou, Katrina, Nilla, Hero, Misty, Elsa, and all the rest of you! You were loved and you will be missed.
